Spring Fashion Has Sprung!

Featured

Ok, maybe not spring weather just yet… But in our minds Spring fashion has sprung!

We are SO ready for winter to be over, and I am sure most of you can relate. It is always around this time that we get sick of the snow, sleet, and ice cold winds. What better way to cope with this feeling than surrounding yourself with some great spring outfits or accessories for inspiration?  We will come to the rescue with some amazing spring trends that we can’t wait to try out from some of our favorite bloggers!

First up, Karla’s Closet.

chat22-1Gold jewelry is fabulous in any season, but these pieces really stand out!  The elegant and simple outfits are a perfect way to make your accessories the focus.  The jewelry “party” trend is one of our favorites and looks amazing on Karla.

Next, Cheetah is the New Black.

lookmatic4You can never go wrong with a great t-shirt and jeans like Alicia is wearing.  It’s a easy, always stylish look for Spring and the pink sunnies add a pop of color.  We are also obsessed with leather sleeved anything and this jacket is amazing!

Third, Sea of Shoes.

Color blocking is a constant trend typically, but we love the way she also did her nails to match the look, it is such a great detail.

Lastly, Gabifresh.

ImageMirage floral prints are here to stay, and possibly hotter than ever! We think this dress looks amazing on Gabi, not to mention is insanely trendy.

These are some of our favorite trends that we have spotted so far.  All of us at Casepops can’t wait for the season to actually come so everyone can bring out their spring and summer wardrobes again! What trends are you excited to try?

MIO Alpha: Making Our Hearts Skip a Beat

Featured

If you’ve been following us along our journey as a startup, you’ll know that, at Casepops, we are fans of a few things. Fashion, innovation, creativity and Kickstarter. Probably because it ends up tying all our favorite things together, we often turn to Kickstarter projects for inspiration.

This time, we fell in love with the MIO Alpha – a heart rate monitor dubbed “the holy grail of heart rate”. After pledging to fund the Kickstarter project for this awesome device, we finally received our own – You could say our hearts skipped a beat with excitement when this thing arrived! Take a look!

Mio Alpha Heart Rate Monitor Unbox Mio Alpha Heart Rate Monitor Unbox Mio Alpha Heart Rate Monitor Unbox Mio Alpha Heart Rate Monitor Unbox

What makes the MIO Alpha so special, though? It’s an entirely touch-free take on the traditional heart rate monitor. Usually, such devices require strapping an awkward thing around your body or hooking something special to your arm. The Alpha completely foregoes this requirement, making the process of tracking your heart rate during exercise as simple as putting on a watch.

Plus, look at that awesome packaging. This device is stylishly packaged and looks nice around your wrist. What’s not to like?

Street Style During NYFW

Featured

We don’t know about you, but street style during NYFW is a huge inspiration for our daily outfits here at Casepops. What better place to see amazing fashion than watching celebrities, buyers, and bloggers walk in and out of the tents at New York Fashion Week. They wear their best and strut it up to the tents in hopes that photographers will greet them like the paparazzi. Some are hits, some are not. Here are some hits and our personal favorites from this season:

According to the bloggers the weather was cold and snowy basically the whole week! Which is incredibly hard to believe because they all look warm and stunning!

Best of 2013 CES: Favorite Gadgets from the Show

Featured

The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is a huge yearly event in Las Vegas. In fact, more than an event, it’s practically a city that pops up in the Las Vegas convention center each January, hosting more than 150,000 guests. But why do they come? To see the latest in technology innovation from some of the largest (and smallest) tech companies from around the world.

CES 2013 Best Gadgets

This year, though Casepops (sadly) didn’t attend CES, we wanted to share a couple of our favorite gadgets that we considered best of CES 2013. With such great coverage from many popular news outlets, it was easy to follow along and feel like we were right there in sunny Las Vegas all the way from Pittsburgh. In the end, we think these gadgets best represent the entrepreneurial spirit of CES, and love to see people pushing technology forward in this way. Here’s what we liked best:

1. Best Screen: Tactus Dynamic Touch Screen

Talk about next generation. This technology, as demonstrated by Bright Side of News, boggles our mind and has to be one of the best innovations we’ve seen in a while. The debate about touch screen (iPhone) vs. physical buttons (Blackberry) could end once and for all if this tech were able to be added to phones of the future.

Basically, as soon as you touch a phone’s keyboard to type (a text or anything) the special screen fills from beneath, creating small firm buttons where there would usually be a flat screen. As soon as you touch away from the keyboard, the liquid-filled buttons just dissolve back into the screen!

2. Best Wearable Tech: The Pebble Smart Watch

Though it may have started as a small Kickstarter project (we love those too), the Pebble Watch was a hit at this year’s CES, and is definitely one of our pics for “best of CES.” Why? Because it incorporates design, fashion, and technology into an elegant and useful product.

Additionally, Mashable reports that the Pebble is the only smart watch out there to use an E-ink display, like the ones you find in Kindles and E-readers. That means it’s inexpensive ($150) and function with extremely long battery life and high readability, even in bright sunlight.

Don’t believe that this little thing is worthy of some mention? Check out its specs!

  • Load apps using Bluetooth
  • 144 x 168 pixel display black and white e-paper
  • Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR and 4.0 (Low Energy)
  • 4 buttons
  • Vibrating motor
  • 3 axis accelerometer with gesture detection
  • Distribute apps via Pebble watchapp store

3. Best Stalking Device: “I’m Here” Tracking Device

While GPS has become commonplace in our society thanks to smartphones and in-car devices, no device has so blatantly said, “Stalk me” like the I’m Here tracking device.

The device is pretty self-explanatory. It can be used by people to keep track of luggage on a flight, loved ones, or valuable items. Theoretically, you could drop the small box anywhere and keep track of its whereabouts from anywhere using your iPhone. It will cost you $160 up front, but you can locate it up to 200 times for free, according to Mashable.

im here gps tracking device ces

To us, the best of CES 2013 aren’t necessarily the most technologically advanced of the bunch. Instead, our favorite gadgets this year combine fashion, functionality, and technology seamlessly. Seeing these, we’re excited for the future of tech and fashion, aren’t you?

The Invisible Artist: Liu Bolin

Featured

An invisible man might sound like an X-Men character or someone from a superhero story. But, we have a real-life invisible man among us. He’s a Chinese artist, the invisible artist Liu Bolin.

Chinese by birth, Liu Bolin grew up in Shandong Province, China and attended the Shandong College of Arts. As an artist he’s become most famous for his series of photographs depicting him set among the backdrop of popular Chinese culture.

Inspiration Feed explains the intentions behind Liu Bolin’s art: Symbolizing humanity that is “invisible” when set against the busy, bustling culture of China’s capital, Bolin’s photos are amazing to look at, and thought-provoking at the same time.

The Smithsonian writes, “Shut down by the Chinese government, Liu Bolin has mastered the art of disappearing.” And while it’s fun to search for Liu (like Where’s Waldo) in each photo, the idea that such humanity and creativity could be hindered among Chinese culture is sobering to us. As such, Liu Bolin’s art is that much more powerful.

His work speaks for itself. But, as a tribute to the Invisible Artist, we wanted to put together a video showcasing his awesome work. In the video below, we assembled some of his best photos and had local Pittsburgh producer and MC, Pav Medicinal, create the original musical track.

VIDEO

In the end, The Invisible Artist Liu Bolin is not so invisible: While Liu may be the hidden man in his artwork, the powerful statement it makes to the art community around the world is anything but hidden.

About the music in our video: Pav Medicinal is an up and coming local Pittsburgh producer and MC.  We thought his music would compliment Liu Bolin’s art, so we asked him to produce the track that’s used in this slide show. Check out Pav’s mixtape, The Wooden Meditation, if you like what you hear!

Art Basel Miami 2012: Post-show Recap

Featured

Earlier, we spoke about our jealousy for those attending the world-famous Art Basel in Miami. Seeing as we weren’t there ourselves, we thought a little post-show recap might help ease the pain of missing out on such a fun time.

Mr. Brainwash at Art Basel Miami 2012 - vibe

Mr. Brainwash’s work was larger than life in Miami’s Art Basel.

As a startup centered around fashion, creativity, innovation, and style, we were disappointed to not be able to make it Art Basel. Casepops draws a lot of inspiration from the likes of the artists that attend shows like Art Basel, so it’s always fun to see what is shown off.

One of the show’s biggest contributors is Mr. Brainwash, a mixed-medium street artist. This year, his work didn’t disappoint, as pointed out in a great video by Vibe.

Art Basel Miami 2012 - casepops

Being in Miami, it would be hard not to be inspired by everything around you. Between the art, the celebrities, and the architecture, it’s easy to see why the show was such a draw this year. The art there is such a big deal that one piece by Gerhard Richter sold for more than its $20 million asking price. Unbelievable!

What do you think? Is the Art Basel all hot air? Or were we missing out on something by missing the show this year?

Accessorize Your Winter Wardrobe with Year-Round Trends

Featured

Love it or hate it, winter is here (on the East Coast at least).   At Casepops, we’re always focused on accessories, and even when winter comes around that doesn’t change a thing.

A big thing this year has been animal prints, and we see it on everything.  Accessories with animal prints have always been a great way to add some personality to a simple outfit.  Cheyenne Meets Chanel (soon to be Peaceloveshea.com) has the perfect amount of animal print in her look.  We love it!

In addition to animal prints, gold accessories are a perfect way to dress up any wardrobe. With gold pieces, it’s easy to make a statement. Atlantic-Pacific shows us how to pull off this gold-centric look perfectly.  We love how she added a few funky, yet classic accessories to this simple black outfit.  During the holiday season, this elegant rocker chick look will keep things stylish and festive.

Accessories with a pop of color can help a plain outfit stand out. These jewelry pieces from one of our favorite online stores, Shopbop, caught our eye in particular.

Alexis Bitta Block Ring Casepops

This Block Ring by Alexis Bittar is truly a “pop” of color.  This ring can be styled with jeans t-shirt or a dressy look, we love that with any accessory.

Next, the V Necklace by Akong London is perfect if you want to try the chunky necklace trend that is so popular right now.  You can wear it in combination with a clean outfit or a simple print for more of a statement .

Kelly Wearstler Faceted Stone Earrings

These Kelly Wearstler Faceted Stone Earrings are amazing!  With a pop of turquoise color and a touch of 18k gold, these are the perfect earring to compliment any look.  We love these earrings with their edgy yet classic feel, they go with everything.

We think its really important to invest in a few quality and timeless pieces for your wardrobe.  These designer boots and bag from Barneys New York will never go out of style.  You can wear them for many years to come and they will always look great.

Meet Gabe and Brit, Co-founders of Casepops!

Featured

Good things come to those who wait. Right?

Gabe and Brit, Co-founders of CasepopsWe promise, Casepops products are launching soon! Just a couple years ago, If you had told us that we would be on the verge of releasing a brand new product to the world, we wouldn’t have believed you. But seriously! The truth is that our story is not the typical Silicon Valley, tech-miracle type of startup story. But, we like that.

We have taken pride in remaining grounded in reality as we’ve developed this company from just an idea into something we hope many will soon have the chance to enjoy.

Along the way, we took a trip to Las Vegas for the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show. To those who haven’t heard of it, think of it as the ultimate gathering for anyone remotely related to technology and innovative products. It was mind-blowing, to say the least, but we were very excited to see that our product idea remained unique, even at the most popular trade show on earth!

We shot some video while exploring the sights and sounds of Vegas and CES, and wanted to share it with our friends and followers to give you all a better sense of how we’ve worked (and played) together to bring this product to reality! Enjoy!

Apple 2012 New Product Round-Up

Featured

New Apple Product Round-Up

In case you haven’t been able to keep up, Apple has announced TEN refreshed products since September. Here’s our Apple 2012 new product round-up, including the iPhone 5 and latest iPad mini. It’s kind of overwhelming, but we need to keep you up-to-date!

At Casepops, we love iPhones, and we’ve actually already spoken about the iPhone 5 vs. the older iPhone 4 and 4S. But what about all of the nine other products that have been announced recently? They deserve some attention too! Take a look at the chart below from Wikipedia’s timeline of apple products if you don’t believe that there were actually that many introduced! We forgive you if you forgot about the Mac Mini.

Timeline of Apple Inc. products Casepops

So many Apple products!

So, iPhone 5 aside, what else is worth pointing out about Apple’s latest release schedule? You might see another iPad in the mix there, and that’s a new one! Even though Apple recently released the 3rd generation iPad, at its latest conference it also surprisingly let the public know about an even better, more advanced iPad. As ABC Australia reports, Apple has essentially made the 3rd generation iPad “obsolete”:

…One of the few surprises to come out of the launch was the news that Apple would indeed make the six-month old 3rd generation iPad the redundant model; alongside the iPad Mini and 4th generation LTE capable iPad, the iPad 2 survives as a budget model, but not the 3rd generation model.

iPad mini

With the announcement of the much anticipated iPad Mini, this news kind of slipped under the radar for many casual consumers. But, surely, the ones who purchased an iPad 3 noticed.

The iPad Mini comes into play seemingly to rival what many Android-based tablets are doing: power in a small form factor. Bigger than a smartphone, but smaller than a laptop, mid-sized tablets have been on fire lately. So, it makes sense that Apple would try to enter the space with another beautifully designed product.

What else? Another announcement that seemed to be drowned-out by the iPhone and iPad Mini announcements was the news that Apple would be refreshing the now classic iMac line of desktop computers. The release images were jaw-dropping. Shot at such an angle, the pictures show off the amazing engineering feats Apple was able to pull off. At its thinnest, the new iMac is only 5mm thin! It’s almost scary.

New iMac is 5mm thin on edge

Additionally, the classic Macbook has been refreshed to include a Retina screen, bringing the once “standard” laptop up into the more premium “pro” feature set. As Apple says in their new commercials, with the new line-up they “want to bring out the Pro in all of us.”

Something mentioned earlier, the Mac Mini, has always been an intriguing product. It has never seemed to reach “mainstream” appeal, but at the same time, it seems so innovative and potentially awesome. It’s just under-appreciated. Sure, the Mac Mini might not have all the marketing hype behind it that the iPhone has, but it’s still a great product and it is nice to see Apple continuing to innovate. The newest one won’t disappoint anyone looking for power in an extremely compact and versatile form factor.

Apple Mac Mini

Oh yeah, how could we forget. There are new iPods too! The product that put Apple in the homes of millions has a new look and we love it. Both the iPod Touch and iPod Nano have been redesigned this year, with the Touch looking more and more like an iPhone (and acting like one too). Some observant people called out that the new Nano looks a lot like an mp3 player from 2007, and while we can’t disagree, it’s good to see that Apple is providing different style options for its fans. Not everyone wants something that looks like an iPhone.

New iPod touch and Nano 2012

If you need a detailed compairson, take a look at CNET’s side by side comparison of the new iPod Touch and iPod Nano.

Phew, that was a lot. Hopefully, that sums up Apple’s new products briefly enough to make sense of it all. Remember, we love iPhones and Apple products here at Casepops, so never hesitate to ask for our opinion on the latest!

Studs and Spikes: Winter 2012 Fashion

Rockstud Bow Bootie by Valentino

Studs and spikes are hot!  Ok that sounds like an obvious statement.  Let’s re-phrase: studded clothing and accessories are hot!  We’ve found lots of ways to incorporate this rocker girl trend into a still-feminine style.  Get the look on coats, shoes, clutches and accessories.  Whatever you’re looking to add to your wardrobe this fall, don’t shy away from including a little hardware.

This chic tailored jacket from TopShop has shoulder studs reminiscent of epaulettes from military suits of the past, adding just a touch more power to the power suit.

Zara’s belted coat emulates the military+studs look as well.  The A-line skirt of this jacket gives a feminine shape while the studded belt sharpens the look.

Google Doodle Celebrates Bob Ross and his Doodling

Featured

Bob Ross would be 70 today.

Today, Bob Ross is being wished a happy birthday by one of the internet’s most popular sites, Google. He’s depicted in a heart-warming Google “doodle” doing what he did best. Appropriately, he has a small squirrel perched on his shoulder!

In the video below, PBS Digital Studios also pays an amazing tribute to the painter that inspired so many young children with his programming. Modernized for a refreshed look at Bob’s work, the creative video remixes Bob’s soothing style with a relaxed “auto-tuned” melody.

Personally, I’ll never forget the time I spent sprawled out on my grandparents’ cold, stone basement floors eagerly awaiting Bob Ross, with a big pad of paper and random drawing tools spread out around me. Following along with him was always a blast, even if the final product never came out anywhere nearly as good as Bob’s! The way he smoothly guided viewers through a painting was captivating and, as a child, I appreciated his slow and patient teaching. Many children’s shows these days (from what I’ve seen) are totally chaotic by comparison. To me, PBS and Bob Ross represent a quieter time for learning that more should aim to emulate.

PC World mentions that it was Bob’s soothing tone that made him a pop culture icon: “Ross’ soothing tone and encouraging nature made him a pop-culture icon, with references on shows like Family Guy, Conan O’Brien, and The Boondocks. He also teamed up with MTV for a promo spot that introduced him to a whole new generation of viewers.”

So, happy birthday, Bob! The Casepops team admires you for your creativity, inspiration, and the impact you had on our pop culture.

Pittsburgh Startups: Reimagining Shoes, Car Buying, Insurance, and Waiting in Lines

Featured

In case you couldn’t tell, we’re a startup based in Pittsburgh. We’ve called the area home, and are excited to launch our our business in a town that has fostered the launch of many other great startups! Though, typically, most people single out places like Silicon Valley or New York as places to launch startups, Pittsburgh and its awesome environment just seem to breed entrepreneurship and innovative ideas! In fact, it’s been named the “Best City to Relocate To” by CNBC! The startup scene is growing and growing too, thanks in large part to Carnegie Mellon and its renowned entrepreneurship program.

“We have every bit as good a program as Stanford and Berkeley and MIT does, we just happen to be in a different place,” he added. “What we teach is cutting edge stuff.” – Art Boni, Carnegie Mellon University

We’ve been fortunate enough to become acquainted with some of the area’s other great up and coming startups, all of which have gone through Alpha Lab, Pittsburgh’s hot incubator program.

Impossible Conversations: Steve Jobs and Coco Chanel

Featured

Ever wonder what Coco Chanel might have thought of the iPhone?  Or what Steve Jobs would have said to Coco? Inspired by the very cool exhibit Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations showing now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, we mashed up direct quotes (and included some fictitious dialogue) from these two brilliant designers from very different times and places.

Coco (ladies first): You call yourself a designer?  I was the only designer named to Time’s 100 most important people of the 20th century!

Steve: (singing in a mock, high-pitched voice) ”Ko Ko Ri Ko.” A cabaret singer, an important designer? pshh. I was busy building my empire in the 20th century; my products are defining the 21st century.

Coco: People are still buying my Chanel No. 5 perfume, you know. That’s almost a hundred years after it was first released.

Steve: People wait in lines hundreds of meters long to buy the iPhone. Did you ever have lines that long for your perfume?

Coco: Well I guess we both had instant classics, then, didn’t we?
